Be as laid-back or as busy as you like during your stay at Sandcastle. For the adventurous guest there’s endless scope...

ANGLING **
Sandcastle is certainly fishing country! The surf and rock fishing in front of Sandcastle is one of the best spots along this stretch of coast. Blue fish, Cob, Mussel Cracker Garrick and Elf are but a few of the species of fish found here. The Gqusha River provides some great fly-fishing for Mullet. Surf fishing tackle and rods are available. Bait can be obtained from the local store in Wesley.

CANOEING **
The Gqusha River (which means sheep in Xhosa) is the perfect water to paddle on. This outing gives the visitor views of magnificent cycads on the kloofs and an up close experience with the birds. You will find a pair of resident Fish Eagles in the valley, and their song describes the feeling of Africa in just one call

CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING *
For the experienced and amateurs, the firing of a shotgun at flying clays is a thrill. This can be arranged with the Ranger, at the prevailing charges for shotgun shells, who will take you shooting under strict safety rules.
.
EXCURSIONS
Aircraft flying, helicopter flips, visits to local small game parks and Addo Elephant Park, historical Xhosa/British war sites and graves and working light house visits can be arranged. Please speak to Head of House or the Ranger for more information.

FLYING
43 Air School in Port Alfred is now the training ground for SAA's candidate pilots. Should you want an introductory lesson or perhaps want to hire an aircraft, this can be arranged for you.

GAME VEIWING **
Our experience Game Ranger, Jurie, can guide you on bush trails to view the game. You can do this by foot, horseback or pickup. Learn fascinating facts about the habitat of numerous small mammals, jackal, lynx, wild pigs and various species of plains game including sable, zebra, giraffe, reedbuck, bushbuck, dyker, inyala and waterbuck and over 250 bird species.

HOBYCAT *
For the avid sailor, there is a fully kitted Hobycat to sail. The boat can be launched either on the Gqusha River or on a calm sea day on the beach directly in front of Sandcastle. Life jackets are available.

HORSE RIDING **
There are eight horses on the farm to take you for a ride on the farm or along the beach. Jurie can take you on trails around the farm to view the game and the wonderful scenery. Horses are allowed on the beach.

HIKING
Hiking Trails have been developed for the guests who want to explore the bushveld. These are well marked with shady places to stop and enjoy your snack packs.

JET SKIING *
Jet skis are available for use on the sea for the experienced, or alternatively on some lagoons close by. The Ranger will be pleased to organize this activity.

KITES
Kite flying is great fun on the beach. Kites are found in the games room.

QUAD BIKING *
There are 4 wheel motor bikes (quads) for adults and a small quad for children. The ATVs are great to use to explore the bush on the property or surrounding farms - pack a picnic and drive to the dam or visit the fairies under the wild fig trees.
A note, no vehicles are allowed on the beach - environmentally unfriendly!!

SURFING AND PADDLESKIING **

Try these activities on the small surf directly in front of the lodge

* There is an additional charge for these activities and they must be booked with the ranger in advance.

** These activities are included in your stay but must be booked with the ranger in advance.
