A Private Sanctuary
A sanctuary unto itself, Sandcastle is situated on 275 hectares of private game reserve as well as enjoying 2km of private beach front. Approximately 45 minutes south of East London, Sandcastle is situated along the malaria free Sunshine Coast of the Eastern Cape.
With its mild and sunny climate, it is the perfect year round destination. Located in the former Ciskei, Sandcastle Villa is steeped in history and sits in the most rural part of the Eastern Cape. Many of South Africa’s freedom fighters came from this area with Nelson Mandela being born just east of East London in a village called Mvezo and Steve Biko’s grave found in King William’s Town.
There is plenty to do at Sandcastle, from kayaking and hiking adventures, to surfing and fishing along the shoreline. Or indulge yourself and enjoy a massage on our lookout deck as you enjoy the sounds of the 250 bird species we have at Sandcastle.
Located along 2km of private beach front, just 400m from the villa, explore this untouched piece of heaven at your leisure. Enjoy a picnic on the beach or explore the dune for ancient stone-age tools. With rock pools teaming with life, and waves great for surfing, you'll be sure to have an excellent day on the beach!
Private Game Reserve
Sandcastle is situated on the Wesley Coastal Conservancy, with 275hectares of private game reserve. Teaming with giraffe, zebra and other plains game, you'll be sure to encounter the friendly locals during your stay at the villa.
The Birds and The Bees
Wewe is our game guard as well as resident Apiarist. With 15 hives scattered along the reserve, his role at Sandcastle is crucial. Wewe is on hand to give you a guided walk of the reserve if you feel like enhancing your knowledge on local trees as well as the animals on the reserve.
